The Pagosa Gateway Project is wrapping up Spring planting with Aloterra, sub-contractor for Flywater. Native plant species have been planted along the two mile corridor where construction took place this past fall. The project addressed:
Enhancing in-channel aquatic habitat via increased hydraulic cover, low water connectivity, and increasing pool depth.
Stabilizing eroding riverbanks
Removing hazardous debris and improving boater safety
Restoring native riparian vegetation and improving riverbank resilience
This work addresses challenges from changing climate conditions, increased recreational use, and legacy modifications to the river channel.
San Juan Mountain Association has partnered with the Town and the Upper San Juan Watershed Enhancement Partnership to coordinate Mat Wolford's 7th grade class to help with planting and caging as part of their Community Beautification class. They will continue to help with the project through May until the end of the school year.
