Pagosa Springs Public Arts Program

Since the adoption of the Public Arts Plan in 2021, the Town has awarded public arts installments in the Town. Public art is best experienced in real life, but to take a virtual tour, be sure to scroll down to "Pagosa Springs Art Experience" - Interactive Story Map.

The 2023 art award is a collaboration between Pagosa Area Tourism, Pagosa Springs Arts Council, and Town of Pagosa Springs. The current collaboration piece is underway and will be installed in the Aspen Village open space - the asphalt trail that meanders through Aspen Village in front of the Walmart property. All three collaborators contributed to this bronze piece - which is a more substantial undertaking requiring the entities to pool funds needed to purchase this piece. The bronze will be a life-sized depiction of a Hispanic sheepherder, a job traditionally quite common in this area. The artist, local Chad Haspels, is also the sculptor behind 2022's "Milo" - the big blue bear in Yamaguchi Park designed and created by Kelly Lewis.
